The idea

Space that calms.

A centre combining therapeutic, accommodation, recreational and catering functions. The starting point was the question stated directly in the thesis title: can the layout of a space lower stress, rather than merely avoid raising it?

I based the massing on an arc wrapped around an internal courtyard with a tree — circulation runs in a ring, so no corridor ends in a wall. The forty-six ground-floor rooms are split into zones of differing stimulation: therapy rooms set back towards the park, the restaurant and sports areas by the entrance. The facade uses Technowood — vertical louvres on an aluminium frame that filter the light and close the view from outside without cutting it off from within.

Plans of three storeys including the underground car park, four elevations, two sections, a 1:50 construction detail and a description of the facade technology — a set showing the full path from analysis to structural solution.
